A welcoming funeral home in Glendora

Front exterior at Oakdale MortuaryOur 118-acre property is located in the central part of Glendora—the Pride of the Foothills—and serves families from West Covina, Azusa, San Dimas and more. Our full-service funeral home includes an on-site crematory, 2 non-denominational chapels and a flower shop. And since we sit on the cemetery grounds, you're able to make all the arrangements you need to from 1 place.

Memorial Chapel seats up to 130 people in traditional pews with padded kneelers. Its midcentury stained-glass windows span floor to ceiling. The more contemporary Sunset Chapel seats up to 150 guests with flexible chair seating with pull-out kneelers. Both chapels have modern audio and video equipment. If you want to show a multimedia tribute at your or your loved one's funeral, we are happy to help you create one.

Multicultural and personalized services

Our caring team helps families of all religions and cultural backgrounds and have team members who speak Spanish. Oakdale Memorial Park offers a Korean-American veterans section. We also have an onsite crematory with a cremation viewing room and are able to conduct fast-turnaround cremations for Hindu families.

We believe that each life is unique and that each funeral or memorial should be too. We pride ourselves on customized funeral and memorial services and find creative ways to include personal passions into a service. Want a cremation with fireworks? How about a team of dancing horses at your graveside? If you can imagine it, let's talk about it.

Cremation services

We specialize in cremation services that honor loved ones in personalized ways, and families love our transparent pricing. With expertise in scattering ashes and a friendly team who pays attention to every detail, we provide service that is second to none.

More and more people are choosing cremation over traditional burial, but most aren’t familiar with the many options:

  • a cremation without a funeral or memorial service of any kind.
  • a funeral with your loved one present, followed by cremation.
  • a cremation followed by a scattering, cemetery memorialization or celebration of life—or all three.

For those who wish for a more momentous memorial, Neptune Memorial Reef is an underwater cremation garden off the coast of Florida. A Celestis Memorial Spaceflight takes ashes into space for a little while or forever.

There are many options for cremation—and they're not all equal. Here's what you can expect when you choose us for your loved one's cremation:

  • Custody of care guaranteed. Our custody-of-care program helps safeguard the identification of your loved one from the time we bring them into our care until the time we return them to your family. We check, cross-check and check again, every step of the way.
  • Exclusive custody of your loved one. We use only crematories owned and operated by Dignity Memorial® providers or trusted partners. Once your loved one is in our custody or that of a trusted partner, they’re in our care until they’re returned to your family.
  • Licensed, certified, conscientious staff. All Dignity Memorial crematory operators are licensed and certified by Cremation Association of North America, or CANA. Only one person at a time is cremated, and the cremation chamber is thoroughly cleaned before the next person is cremated.

Cemetery

Glendora's Oakdale Memorial Park has served families since its founding in the late 1800s. We are the cemetery of choice for many families in West Covina, Azusa, San Dimas, the San Gabriel Valley and Greater Los Angeles.

Occupying 118 acres, the cemetery offers a comforting environment to reflect on fond memories of loved ones. The peaceful and serene property has views of the San Gabriel Mountains and Angeles National Forest. When you first enter the property, you'll see our charming Swan Pond.

Many burial options

Cemetery grounds at Oakdale MortuaryThough in the earliest days of the cemetery, we allowed upright monuments, we now focus on flat markers to protect the distinctly park-like environment. We do, however, offer a multitude of burial options, including private family estates, mausoleums and columbaria. The cremation garden has a small fountain, an ossuary and banks of cremation niches.

Holiday decorations

At Oakdale Memorial Park, we understand that holidays are a special time to remember and celebrate your loved ones. In order to accommodate our families during holidays, we allow holiday-appropriate decorations on grave and memorial sites in addition to the normally allowed floral decor.

Currently, this program is in place for Valentine's Day, Easter, Mother's Day, Memorial Day, Father's Day, All Soul's Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. During the appropriate months, you may find details about this program, including allowable dates, in our events section below. Please feel free to contact us at any time for additional information.

Community involvement and events

Close up view of water fountain at Oakdale Memorial Park. We always look for ways to have a positive impact on Glendora and the San Gabriel Valley. To that end, we partner with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department on impact programs that address the problem of drunk driving and help families and at-risk teenagers. We also partner with religious education organizations to help young pastors and youth ministers in training learn to perform meaningful funeral services.

Every Memorial Day, we have a celebration to honor veterans. Our team goes out the day before and places American flags on the graves of military servicemen and servicewomen. On the day of, we hold a ceremony at our flagpole with the VFW, American Legion, AMVETS and other veterans organizations. Local veterans speak about the history of the holiday and the sacrifices of our military.

On Día de Los Muertos, we invite the community to enjoy the tastes, customs and culture of the holiday with food vendors, dancers, altar contests and more.

Additionally, we host an annual Christmas Memorial Ceremony during the holiday season. We invite families to gather to remember loved ones and light candles in their memories. The ceremony is non-denominational, and everyone is welcome to participate.

History

Our funeral home and cemetery were officially incorporated on July 9, 1890. However, our history reaches back even further.

Cemetery founding

Cemetery grounds at Oakdale Memorial Park In 1886, the Sante Fe Railroad came into the San Gabriel Valley and changed the area dramatically. The cemetery that was here at that time—Fairmount Cemetery—was too small to meet the growing burial needs of the community. As a result, citizens of Glendora, Azusa, Covina and Santa Ana came together to purchase 20 acres to create what would later be known as Oakdale Cemetery. To begin, 6 families even gave their permission for the bodies of their loved ones to be relocated from Fairmount Cemetery to Oakdale Cemetery.

Cemetery expansion

The cemetery was expanded in 1925 onto land from an adjacent orange grove. Though at first upright monuments were allowed for in-ground burials, the cemetery adopted a policy of permitting only flat grave markers in 1929. This allowed us to improve care and maintenance of the landscaping, and gave the cemetery a more natural park-like appearance.

Crematory, funeral home and chapel construction

Lobby at Oakdale MortuaryThe official name of the cemetery changed to Oakdale Memorial Park in 1948. Wanting to offer families 1 convenient location to make all their funeral arrangements, we built a crematory and funeral home on the property in 1968.

Today, Oakdale Mortuary and Oakdale Memorial Park spans 118 acres with many beautifully landscaped gardens, multiple mausoleums and columbaria, and an entire section dedicated to cremation memorializations.

To best serve you, our location now has 2 funeral chapels and a cremation viewing room.

Best Mortuary Award

In 2015, we were named Best Mortuary as part of the San Gabriel Valley Reader’s Choice News Awards. We're proud to be upholding a tradition that started more than a century ago.
